Us BoogieBacks were spankin' the baby, flyin' the charleston, shinin' our shoes in our stomping ground, Pulawski Park on a lovely, refreshing welcome-summer day, May 25th 2009.
Performing the Big Apple to Lionel Hampton's "Flying Home" we flew across the grass, gliding and spinning. The Big Apple, a group dance created by Blacks in the South in the early 1930s, and popularized by Frankie Manning with the Whities Lindy Hoppers in Harlem.
Chris and I maintained the original steps in the first round, and added our own steps in the second round. We choreographed with the intention of grounding our Lindy mind to capture the roots of Lindy Hop with its strong intersection of African dance.
In the next few months BoogieBack will continue creating movement that focuses on percussive rhythmic play in collaboration with music, and gymnastic elements such as lifting, jumps and throws.

Dear BoogieBackLindy,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Maya, I am the current scheduler for the Upstairs Studio.
Can you please help me to gain administrative access to the Upstairs Studio Blogspot site?
The rental rate information needs to be changed to $10 per hour for both individual and groups. The contact information needs to updated as well.
Please email me at upstairs.northampton.studio@gmail.com so we can straighten out how I may make these edits.
Thanks so much!
Maya
